Bad-Trip Barbie of British Burlesque

Picture

Pixie Truffle is the bad trip Barbie of British Burlesque.  Unashamedly queer she is just as comfortable galavanting as a gallant gentleman, gyrating on the stage with gentle grace or exploding with fierce femininity; a potent and authoritative femme-queer neo-burlesque innovator.  She very much identifies as a queer female boylesque performer.  Taking the fierce and highly charged elements of masculine burlesque and investing her drag king burlesque characters with those idiosyncrasies.

She is just as at home in the world of drag king performance as burlesque, and cannot help but blur the boundaries of the two genre.  As her Dixie Shuffle routine shows when 'his' devious dexterousness and pugilistic prowess comes to be his undoing after he takes his masculinity too far and his glamorous assistant reveals Dixie's erstwhile identity.

But Dixie is merely one of Pixie Truffle's drag king personalities.  Each character more bizarre than the next, you might find yourself in the presence of Maurice Moss, Jesse Rose the rehab eighties hair rocker or even Lemmy Kilmister.  She is working on a drag king hairy bikers character and will be debuting her Rasputin routine shortly.

Pixie is perhaps best known for being the founder of the largest burlesque troupe in the United Kingdom, Lesburlesque; currently the only lesbian burlesque troupe in the country.  Boasting 30 plus members who share her passion for providing tease tailored to the female psyche, Lesburlesque is helping to bring traditional lesbian entertainment forms to mainstream audiences as well as introducing burlesque to the queer crowd.   Lesburlesque have a Wikipedia page, here.

In the last year Pixie has mostly performed at her own shows but has been featured heavily in the media.  She courted controversy by taking her troupe to perform at a former church and recently been described as "spearheading a thriving scene of colourful male impersonators in Manchester, fast emerging as the UK's drag king capital.," by the Guardian.   See the "In the Press" link for more details.
